Disabled bathroom created by Room H2o for a customer in Wareham Dorset

Wareham Disability Wetroom

Disability Wetroom For Wareham Resident

When a couple in Wareham, Dorset wanted to future proof their bathroom our design and installation team created this stylish disability wetroom with many convenient features.

Location

Wareham

Products Used

  • Altro Marine flooring
  • Impey Aqua dec former
  • RAK Resort 50cm wall hung single tap hole basin with semi pedestal
  • RAK Resort Rimless Wall Hung Pan
  • Grab rails
  • Padded folding shower seat
  • Perseo beige & décor wall tiles

Our clients, one of whom has impaired mobility, asked us to design and install a new level access wetroom with convenient features to make bathing easier. Using our Compusoft virtual bathroom design software we created a design for the new wetroom, complete with detailed floor plans and photographic renderings of the finished room.  Allowing our clients to visualise the finished shower room before we proceeded with the installation.  Under the government scheme for people with disabilities, all works and products associated with the project were exempt from VAT.

The main issue we had to overcome when planning the layout for the new wetroom was space. There simply was not enough room to accommodate the size of shower required in the existing ground floor bathroom. The solution was to move a wall to create the space needed.

To install the Impey Wetdeck wetroom floor former and pipework our lead installer, Steve, had to excavate the concrete floor which was later screeded to provide a sound and level base for vinyl flooring.  Within the shower we installed grab handles and a padded fold down shower seat. To enclose the shower, we installed a stylish fixed glass walk-in screen to allow easy and level access to the shower.

Altro Marine vinyl flooring in a light grey colour was installed across the entire floor and shower with wood grain effect and sand toned contrasting wall tiles from Perseo. A stylish RAK Resort toilet and wash basin with illuminated vanity mirror and further grab rails completed the room. Our customers were delighted with their new wetroom and commented:

“A huge thank you to all who were involved in this build/refurb. You have provided excellent service from start to finish and the end result is simply stunning! Very high-quality workmanship and the wet room just looks gorgeous. We are delighted with the end result. A special thanks to Steve who was worked in a professional, tidy way and was always cheerful and accommodating. He has done a marvellous job so please do pass on our thanks to him.”

Stylish and convenient disability bathroom created by Room H2o for the Clifftop Care Home in Swanage

Clifftop Care Home Swanage

Assisted Living Bathroom For Clifftop Care Home in Swanage

Our bathroom installation team removed a wall at the Clifftop Care Home in Swanage to create space for this new disability shower room with level floor and stylish but practical bathroom fittings.

Location

Swanage, Dorset BH19 1LS

Products Used

  • Altro flooring
  • RAK Resort C/C mini toilet
  • RAK series 600 wash hand basin
  • Vado Life concealed shower valve
  • Roper Rhodes Eminence 490 x 650mm oval mirror
  • Biava Straight Multi Rail 1118 x 600mm  towel radiator
  • Chrome grab handles

The project involved the renovation of an existing shower room at the Clifftop Care Home.  To meet current regulations our bathroom design and installation team had to enlarge the space, and this was achieved by removing a wall.

The brief from the client was a stylish shower room complying with Document M regulations. A rimless RAK Resort close coupled toilet was installed to minimise projection and make access for wheelchair users easier.  The toilet was complimented by a RAK Series 600 basin, easy to operate single leaver basin mixer and oval Eminence illuminated bathroom mirror from Roper Rhodes.  Stylish chrome grab handles were installed either side of the basin and toilet, giving the new bathroom a modern and luxury feel.

To create the shower, the floor was screeded to create falls to a flush stainless steel drain before the entire area was covered in high grip Altro vinyl flooring in a contrasting blue colour to aid those with impaired vision.  For the shower we installed a stylish but easy to use Vado Life concealed thermostatic shower valve with hand shower and riser kit. Allowing the carers to easily set the hight of the shower to suit the requirements of each resident.  The tiles were supplied by Clifftop Care Home and installed by our expert tilers.

The project took a little over 2 weeks to complete and all works and products were exempt from VAT under the government scheme for people with disabilities.  If you are considering you own assisted living bathroom you can read more about our service here or alternatively, please do contact our expert design team.

New bathroom with freestanding bath in Wareham by Room H2o

Two Rooms Combined For Wareham Bathroom

Two Rooms Combined For Wareham Bathroom

Our latest project features two rooms knocked into one. The homeowners approached us having just bought a new home in Wareham, Dorset. They wanted to combine the old bathroom and toilet rooms into one using a mix of modern and traditional products. The result is a large, beautiful bathroom that covers a full 13m².

Location

Wareham, Dorset

Products Used

  • Windsor freestanding roll-top bath by Adamsez
  • Feeling rectangular shower tray in Cappuccino by RAK
  • Karndean vinyl flooring in Opus Solis

Our installers knocked through the wall that separated the old bathroom from the toilet. We then had to re-position the pipework to allow for the new bath and shower layout. A further challenge was to move the basin unit to opposite from its original place, as well as installing a new water softener.

First of all, our surveyor visited the property to take measurements. The homeowners told us their rough vision for the room. Next, our design team developed 3D design images using Compusoft. This showed the homeowners the exact layout of their new bathroom before they committed to buy. This included small touches such a shower pigeon hole for bathroom products.

The bathroom boasts 35m² of natural stone effect porcelain wall tiles in Super Travertine Beige. By covering from floor to ceiling, the design achieves a unified look. For the flooring, the homeowners chose Karndean vinyl flooring in Opus Solis. This had the advantage of being waterproof, slip-resistant and cheaper per square metre than porcelain.

We recommended RAK’s range of premium shower trays for the shower area. The homeowners selected a Cappuccino Feeling shower tray and matching Cappuccino shower valve. As for the basin unit, the reduced-depth Roper Rhodes fitted furniture in chalk white leaves plenty of space in the centre of the room.

The centrepiece of the room is a stunning freestanding bath by Adamsez. The tub boasts a roll-top design sitting on traditional ball and claw stainless steel legs. We also included a freestanding chrome bath shower mixer, also in a traditional style.

If you are interested in revamping your old bathroom, get in touch with our experts. We will guide you through every step of the project, from the initial site visit and design to the supply and installation of the products.

‘Bath Out, Shower In’ Project In Lytchett Matravers

Bath Out Shower In Project In Lytchett Matravers

We were recently approached by a client in Lytchett Matravers, Poole. They wanted a complete revamp of their old bathroom, making the most of the small space. After completing a site visit and creating a 3D design, we were given the go-ahead to install a gorgeous new shower room.

Location

Lytchett Matravers, Poole, Dorset

Products Used

  • Karndean Argento Opus SP217 stone effect vinyl flooring
  • Fiora Privilege extra flat shower tray in Cenere 1800x800mm
  • Crosswater Design fixed shower screen 1000mm
  • Roper Rhodes Vetro fitted furniture basin unit with Ascent semi recessed wash basin
  • Roper Rhodes Ascent closed coupled toilet
  • Afyon grey polished porcelain tiles 30×60

Due to the limited space, we recommended an open walk-in shower area to replace the old bathtub. Our design uses the entire end of the room for the shower area, protected by a 1000mm fixed glass panel by Crosswater. For the shower tray, the homeowners chose Fiora’s Privilege tray in Cenere (1800x800mm) due to its sleek appearance and tough, grippy design.

The showering equipment is a real showstopper. It consists of a 3-in-1 Eastbrook shower with 3 body jet, with an unusual shape that curves overhead. As for the flooring, the homeowners browsed our extensive Karndean collection before plumping for the Opus range in Argento. This was complimented by Afyon grey polished porcelain wall tiles in size 300x600mm, featuring a very similar texture. The resulting colour scheme contrasts well with the ladder rail, basin and sanitaryware.

The homeowners wanted the furniture to be as unobtrusive as possible. As such, we recommended the space-saving Roper Rhodes Vetro fitted furniture basin unit, paired with an Ascent semi-recessed basin. Another stylish touch is the Carla 1200×500 radiator in matt black finish. Taken from Phoenix’s designer towel rails range, the asymmetrical design adds character to the otherwise straightforward room.

Easy Access Shower Room In Wareham

Easy Access Shower Room for Elderly Gentleman in Wareham

We designed and installed a disability bathroom for an elderly homeowner in Wareham, Dorset. He was finding it hard to get in and out of his old bathtub. As such, he requested an easy access shower area fitted with grab bars, seating and large overhead shower.

Location

Wareham, Dorset

Products Used

  • RAK Feeling bathtub replacement shower tray 170×70 in Cappucino colour
  • Fixed shower screen with floor to ceiling stability post
  • R2 TR3003 Marine shower with overhead shower and handset
  • Karndean Knight Tile Lime washed oak KP99
  • Belgravia wall tiles in shower area
  • Folding padded shower seat
  • Chrome grab rails

The project ran into an unwelcome surprise after we had removed the old carpeting. This was because the floorboards were found to be rotten and in need of replacement, which added extra time and cost. Our installers then discovered a galvanised pipe under the old bath, which we were forced to rip out and replace it with a new tank. Fortunately, we worked quickly to overcome the problem and finish within two weeks.

We supplied a number of quality products to suit the specifications. Safety was the most important consideration – we put in a padded seat and two grab bars for maximum security whilst showering. We also installed a new pump to run the shower, fitted with an R2 Marine overhead shower and handset combo. For the fixed glass panel we installed a secure floor-to-ceiling post for added stability.

After disposing of the old carpet, we laid Karndean Knight vinyl flooring in Lime Washed Oak. This was complimented by Belgravia beige wall tiles in the shower area, which contrasts nicely with the wood effect vinyl floor. Our installers left the old basin and toilet untouched, as the customer was satisfied with his existing products.

The gentleman was able to pay for the bathroom without VAT added, due to his age and disability. A nice bonus!

We specialise in disability bathrooms such as this project. Speak to our bathroom design experts iIf you need to “futureproof” your bathroom for later years, or you are already struggling with mobility. We are always keen to explore the possibility of foregoing VAT for elderly or disabled customers.

Bedroom to Bathroom Conversion in Swanage

Bedroom to Bathroom Conversion in Swanage

This quaint old cottage was the perfect setting for a bedroom to bathroom conversion. We embraced the traditional Portland stone architecture to create a modern bathroom space that does justice to the building’s heritage.

Location

Swanage, Dorset

Products Used

  • Bespoke semi-frameless shower by Room H2o
  • Jacuzzi style bath by Phoenix UK
  • Karndean Knight Tile in Urban Spotted Gum

The homeowners came to us in search of a totally bespoke bathroom design. The brief was to preserve the rustic character of the cottage whilst integrating the comfort and luxury of contemporary bathroom products. We worked hand-in-hand with the customer to bring this vision to life, first with our 3D design service, and then a full installation by our expert fitters.

The client took advantage of our huge range of luxury bathroom products. They picked out a jacuzzi-style bath tub by Pheonix UK, with a heater and lights for the full luxury bathing experience. They also selected a Roper Rhodes drawer basin unit in Basalt Wood, as well as luxury vinyl flooring from our Karndean Knight range.

As with many period buildings, this project posed a few challenges. Firstly, the sloping ceilings and exposed beams meant we could not simply install an “off the peg” shower enclosure. Instead, our in-house team designed a bespoke made to measure shower area based on the surveyor’s measurements. This involved a semi-frameless design, with special glass panels to match the angle of the ceiling.

The second challenge was the sheer thickness of the old Purbeck stone walls. We had to call in a specialist builder to install new waste outlets and drains. The final issue was to install a new boiler with increased capacity to supply the new bathroom.

If you’re looking to carry out a luxury bedroom to bathroom conversion, get in touch with our friendly team. We’ll manage your project every step of the way, from a free site visit to comprehensive design service and installation.

Easy Access Shower Room for Elderly Couple in Swanage

Easy Access Shower Room for Elderly Couple in Swanage

We designed and installed this easy access shower room for a retired couple, one of whom has a disability. The brief was to create a stylish space with as few hazards as possible.

Location

Swanage, Dorset

Products Used

  • Bespoke semi-frameless shower by Room H2o
  • Jacuzzi style bath by Phoenix UK
  • Karndean Knight Tile in Urban Spotted Gum

During their design consultation, we discussed with the clients how to best meet the needs of the disabled Mr. Our suggestion was to remove the existing bath tub and replace it with a fully open shower area, including grab bars at a suitable height. We also advised using a low profile shower tray by Fiora to remove the risk of the clients tripping up or having to climb over a bath panel each day.

The clients chose an Aqualisa Q digital shower due to its simple, easy to use design. They liked the touch screen feature and option of having pre-set water temperatures, flow and timings. Further consideration was given to the clients’ age with the comfort height toilet by RAK, a few centimetres higher than a standard toilet. During the installation process, the clients chose to swap a close coupled toilet for a back to wall, hence the difference in the 3D design images from the final room.

Our installation team took four weeks to remove the old bathroom and install the new shower room. This involved tiling the floor with non-slip vinyl flooring by Karndean, fully waterproof and boasting a beautiful oak effect. At the end of each day we had to re-fit the toilet, as it was the only toilet in the house!

If you’d like a similar “bath out, shower in” project, get in touch with our bathroom experts today. We’ll discuss the best way forward for your new shower room, including a design visit and 3D design consultation. Perfect Small Shower Room for Swanage Farmhouse

Perfect Small Shower Room for Swanage Farmhouse

Installing a new bathroom in this lovely old farmhouse in Swanage presented the Room H2o team with a challenge and a couple of surprises.

Location

Swanage, Dorset

Products Used

  • Bespoke semi-frameless shower by Room H2o
  • Jacuzzi style bath by Phoenix UK
  • Karndean Knight Tile in Urban Spotted Gum

Working with old buildings is a pleasure, but they often present challenges and require a sympathetic approach.  Common design challenges include small rooms, low sloping ceilings and uneven walls and floors, not to mention age.  This bathroom presented many of the aforementioned challenges and on removing the old shower and tray, an unwelcome surprise.  The shower tray was only supported by 5mm thick plywood and was installed on expanding foam!

By far the biggest challenge faced by our bathroom installation team was the size of the bathroom.  The tight dimensions meant that only one trade could work in the room at any time.

On removing the shower, it was clear that the floor joists would need to be strengthened and a new plywood floor laid.  Before our tiler started work, we installed a special made to measure 1997x608mm Fiora Silex low profile shower tray in cream, with tray resized in-house by our shower team.

Although the design we created limited the wall tiles to the shower and around the window, once again the tight dimensions, sloping ceiling and features meant that our tiler had his work cut out!  For the furniture and sanitaryware stylish Ropher Rhodes R2 Halcyon basin unit in white is paired with a R2 Debut toilet.  The shower was finished off with a Roper Rhodes R2 Marine thermo shower bar and a minimalist Crosswater Design 1100mm minimalist shower screen – that delivered the final challenge.  Being too big to fit up the stairs, we had to remove all the spindles to make space, but the guys got it up to the bathroom in the end!

When it came to choosing flooring, the customer was keen on wood but felt that it was impractical. We suggested wood effect luxury vinyl flooring from the Karndean as an alternative.  Initially sceptical, they we amazed by its authenticity and the choice of finishes and chose Lime Washed Oak, with a lovely driftwood look, from the Knight Tile collection for their floor.

The customer was delighted with the finished room and we think that it is a great showcase for what can be achieved in a small space.  If we can help you to design and create your own small bathroom or shower room, please do contact David Auburn at the Room H2o showroom in Wareham for a design consultation.

Curved shower seat tiled by Room H2o with Verona Creswell mosaic tiles

Luxury Frameless Shower for Sandford Bathroom

Luxury Frameless Shower for Sandford Bathroom

We were delighted when luxury property specialist, Conceptual Homes, asked us to install one of our signature bespoke frameless shower screens for a recent project in Sandford, Dorset.

When Dorset based Conceptual Homes were commissioned to carryout extensive renovations to a property in Sandford they once again turned to the Room H2o frameless shower team.  The client wanted a modern look with a large frameless shower enclosure which would also feature a seat.

We supplied a large 1000x900mm Fiora Silex shower tray, ultra-slim to fit flush with the floor, in Cenere colour (cement grey tone) white perfectly complimented the light grey porcelain wall tiles.  For the shower seat, a bespoke curved wetroom shower seat from Wetroom Innovations was installed and tiled in contrasting Verona Cresswell grey mosaic tiles, also used by our expert tilers to create a feature on one of the shower walls.  A luxury Vado Celsius shower package, with in-wall shower valve mounted within the feature mosaic tiles, supplied all the hot water needs which left only the shower enclosure.

Once Conceptual Homes had completed the bathroom renovation, our expert shower team installed a large 1000x900mm frameless shower enclosure with hinged door and fixed panel using thick 10mm clear glass, expertly shaped by the team to the curve of the shower seat. The client was delighted with the finished bathroom and loved the large shower with stylish, but practical, shower seat.
